A beautiful reel or a sharp portfolio only goes as far as the website carrying it. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve opened a stunning showreel on a site that took eight seconds to load — and watched the bounce rate tell the real story.
Over the past year I’ve leaned harder into the technical side of my work: compressing assets without losing the grade, lazy-loading video embeds, and structuring pages so search engines can actually understand what a client does.
The pattern holds across every project — photographer, filmmaker, small studio. Speed and clarity aren’t the opposite of craft; they’re what let the craft get seen. A site that loads quickly and ranks for the right terms turns a portfolio from a business card into a lead engine.
That’s the thread connecting the cinematography and the code for me: both are about removing friction between the work and the person meant to experience it.
